Neo Genesis is where Wizards of the Coast opened the Johto era, localizing the Gold and Silver expansion and shipping it on December 16, 2000. It's a watershed set mechanically: Darkness and Metal energy types debut here, along with the first Baby Pokémon (Cleffa, Igglybuff, Pichu and friends). The 111-card checklist leans on Generation II newcomers, and the holo rail is anchored by Lugia (9/111), the legendary chase card that still defines the set, backed by holo starters Typhlosion, Feraligatr, and Meganium. First Edition cards carry the circular black stamp in the lower-left of the art window; Unlimited drops it. It's a great-looking set with bold gold-bordered holos, and clean copies of the marquee cards remain genuinely tough.
Watch the gold/dark holo borders — edge whitening and chipping show readily against the dark frame, so back corners get scrutinized. Centering can run loose on holos. The First Edition stamp sits as a small black circle in the lower-left of the art window; Unlimited has no stamp.
