YuYu Hakusho
American-anime TCG plateau · post-DBZ, pre-Naruto

Yu Yu Hakusho, 2003.

FUNimation's English-language TCG, single-saga release. A short, focused run with foil treatments that have aged better than any of its contemporaries.

Where the run starts

FUNimation's Tournament Saga shipped in 2003 — an 84-card single-set release covering the Dark Tournament arc of the anime. There's no Spirit Detective Saga set, and the planned Three Kings expansion was cancelled when the licence ran short.

What makes the era special

The foil treatment on Tournament Saga uses a directional sparkle pattern that catches light differently across an axis — almost like a holographic line scan rather than a traditional rainbow. Twenty years on, these foils have aged exceptionally well: less whitening, less surface scratching than period Pokémon or DBZ foils.

What we look for when sourcing

Foil character cards (Yusuke, Hiei, Kurama, Toguro) are the chase tier. We avoid examples with white-edge wear on the back top-strip — a sign of having been the top card in a stack for a long time. Toguro 100% Power is the run's grail.

IDENTIFY · WHAT TO CHECK

A short single-set line — it's the foils that carry value.

1Card face under light
Directional single-axis sparkle = genuine FUNimation foil.
2Back top-strip
White-edge wear means it sat at the top of a stack for years — common, docks the grade.
